How to Reduce High Blood Pressure Through Diet

High blood pressure is a common problem in today’s world. Unfortunately, it’s on the rise and some healthcare professionals are blaming our diet and lifestyle. Let’s face it, back in the day we were all a lot more active than we are now – screen time is an issue for adults and children throughout the world. This is leading to obesity and problems such as high blood pressure, high cholesterol and more dangerous complications such as heart disease.

HOW TO EAT WELL TO PREVENT HYPERTENSION
A lot of research has been done into the effects of our diet on our health. The National Heart, Blood and Lung Institute did research to discover how our diet affects our health and particularly high blood pressure. It turns out that there are a few ways to reduce our risks of developing the condition as well as reduce symptoms for those who already have the condition.
There were a few key findings. High sodium intake – salt – and high red meat intake were the biggest factors. High fat foods and foods high in saturated fat particularly are also advisable to avoid. These changes, combined with an increase in vegetables, fruits and whole grain food should significantly reduce your risks of hypertension.
You will also be able to eat low-fat dairy foods and select alternative foods such as low-sodium options. You won’t need to restrict your diet much at all and most people can follow the diet fairly easily, without having to adjust what they already eat too much of.
THE DASH DIET – WHAT IS IT?
If you want to be sure that you are doing all you can to reduce your sodium intake and improve your overall health, then you should strongly consider following the DASH Diet. It is the diet that came out of the research by the National Heart, Blood and Lung Institute – it is literally doctor approved and recommended. It’s an exceptional diet for almost all health conditions relating to obesity such as hypertension, high cholesterol and even diabetes. There’s even some evidence to show that following this diet will lead to a reduction in your risk of certain cancers.
